Should my character's name change?

Go for it. Changing a name indicates a change in inner direction. Muhammad Ali changed his name from Cius Clay. And so did Prince. And John Cougar Mellencamp from John Cougar. It's not highly unusual. And the public certainly have accepted that change. Best wishes for a good sequel !
